DISCLAIMER: The Cabbage Patch Bar is an adult entertainment atmosphere. Most adults, and our favorite bikers in particular, really set out to have serious good natured fun at events like Cole Slaw Wrestling, Wet T-Shirt contests, and the like. Nudity is not only an accidental by-product of those activities, it is the reason our friends attend, participate, and enjoy viewing the proceedings.

The History of Sopotnicks Cabbage Patch
Olga Weber Is Once A Year Cycle Mama
adapted from the Daytona News-Journal article by John Carter

Listen My Children and you shall hear, of the "famous ride" of Olga Weber. It doesn't scan and it doesn't rhyme, but "Ollie" Weber's annual ride on a high powered Harley or a "kick out the jams" Kawasaki is more famous hereabouts than Paul Revere's storied gallop. Mrs. Weber is noted proprietor of the Sopotnick's Tavern, a landmark on Tomoka Farms Road near Pioneer Trail. For the past seven years, she has celebrated motorcycle week by donning her helmet, nestling up against the sissy bar and joining one of her customers on an extralegal high speed run on a county road. "And when they get up to 110 miles an hour, she asks if he can make it go faster," Harold Kettler, bartender at Sopotnick's, chortled.

Mrs. Weber Admitted that she only rides a chopper once a year. That's when hundreds of bikers crowd around the tavern which over the years has become their unofficial headquarters for race week. "Motorcyclers who come out here are very nice people," Mrs. Weber claimed. She added reports of rock throwing and harrasment of passing cars during race week were "not true". She said that her guests come to see her year round and not just during race week. Some of her cycling friends are auto salesman, attorneys and "we even had a few judges here before," "Mrs. Weber said. Some of her many friends in Georgia and Alabama hosted Mrs. Weber for a barbecue and vacation trip in Northern Alabama recently. "They treated me as though I were really something," she smiled.

Last Week, member of the Slovenian National Benefit Society cooked for some of Mrs. Weber's guests and profits from the impromptu kitchen operation were donated to the Cancer Fund. Mrs. Weber said that was typical of the attitude and good will of her guests and the surrounding community.

"I never have any trouble with any of them getting fresh," she said. "They hug and kiss me when they get here, they stay and have a good time, then they hug and kiss me when I go inside to wave goodbye."

The Tavern Walls are lined with posters signed by Mrs. Webers guests over the years. Many of the names, such as "Sockeye," "Dirty Dave" and "Gloria and Walter" are on each poster, indicating years of close camaraderie at Sopotnick's Corner.

Mrs. Weber's father, Joe Sopotnick, moved to the Samsula area in 1913 and is one of the cofounders of Volusia's large Slovenian community. He built the two story house at the corner of State Roads 415 and 40A in 1925 or 1926, according to Mrs. Weber.

She has run the tavern since 1967, when her mother died. Sopotnick's Corner has many of the features of almost any country tavern - cold draft beer, pool tables and a wood floor. But it has more than that, it has a feeling of history and the walls are papered with reminders of good times past. And it also has "Ollie" Weber, the Queen of Sopotnick's Corner and a once a year high speed "motorcycle mama."
